Pig Dinner Weekend

Every year George’s fraternity has a graduate weekend known as Pig Dinner and this year was a date year.  If I remember correctly, they only allow dates every 4 years but I could be wrong.  It was the 30th anniversary and there were probably over 200 graduates/brothers.  We had a wonderful time and got to catch up with lots of friends.

We actually went up to Cookeville on Thursday evening.  On Friday we ran errands around town and then Friday night we had dinner with 20ish friends from college at Chilis.  I wish I would have taken the camera but I forgot.  A couple of our good friends are expecting babies this summer so it was so much fun talking babies!  After that we headed over to the Clarion Inn for the Donor Party but I didn’t make it too long.  This girl is not in college anymore and likes to get in the bed early!

On Saturday I took the kids to my mom’s house for the very 1st time!  George was playing golf with his fraternity brothers so it was just us.  We all had a really good visit and Emma loves all of the toys that my mom had bought.

Then on Saturday night we headed to Pig Dinner while George’s parents took all the grandkids to listen to music and eat dinner.  I had gone out earlier last week and splurged on a new dress/cardigan/shoes and just wasn’t happy about it.  But after I put it on that night and got all fixed up I felt better.  I got several compliments too which made me feel better.  :)  I loved seeing all of our Huntsville friends and friends from college.  For a brief second I really missed our college years but it didn’t last long!

Pig Dinner 2011

I am so glad we got to go this year and George’s parents were so wonderful to help out with the kids so much!  We were really tired Sunday as we headed home but I managed to get everything unpacked & washed asap!  I imagine this week we’ll just lay low and rest.  Thank goodness the kids are getting over their colds too.  Emma was horse all weekend and they have both been so snotty.  We are ready for our 80 degree weather to come back!

Got to go run shower and get Emma ready for dance!  Tuesdays are our busy day!

Hudson At 16 Months!

Rare moment-he fell asleep while watching Yo Gabba Gabba on Thursday.

My little monkey you are now 16 months old!  You are such a monkey these days and keep me on my toes constantly.  Your sister was never a climber like you are.  You are constantly climbing onto our coffee table and tonight you treated yourself to our kitchen table.  Yep, you are a big time monkey!  At least you know how to slide off correctly instead of going head first.

Other than the tantrums and your crazy climbing skills this age is so much fun!  You join in on our family races at night and you love to race your sister.  During dinner you sit in sister’s booster seat while she sits in the big girl chair.  I love having all four of us at the table.  Some days are definitely hard (like today) but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.  Both you and your sister are super snotty right now and coughing a little bit but hopefully it will be over with in a few days.

So what else are you up to at 16 months?

  • You’ve been using a fork and are really good at it!
  • I’m thinking you are around 25 lbs
  • 24 months & 2T clothing
  • You go to the bathroom door still and scream to brush your teeth & play in the water
  • You could be outside 24 hours a day & be happy
  • Most of the time we put you to bed around 7:30 but it varies more now
  • For the most part you are sleeping 12 hours a night
  • When I ask you to point to a body part you still only point to your ears but we are working on it
  • You love to go bye-bye and will go climb into the van as soon as I open the doors
  • Yo Gabba Gabba is still an obsession and you squeal in delight when we turn it on
  • You also say “baba baba” when you want to watch YGG
  • Fruit seems to be your favorite food right now & includes grapes, strawberries, oranges, apples, and bananas
  • We make fruit smoothies all the time & you go crazy for them
  • You love anything water related
  • Words include momma, dada, sister/emma (only a couple of times), baba, bite, banana, apple, bye-bye, and maybe 1 or 2 more that I can’t think of right now

You stay busy every minute of the day for the most part but you also love to snuggle up with your mommy and your favorite blue blankie.  You and your sister are both hooked on your special blankets.  Even though you test me constantly I love you so so much and we are so blessed to have you in our family.  Those big blue eyes just melt me and I am so proud to be your mommy.

We all love you sweet Hudson!!!

Another rare moment-he fell asleep this evening while I was cooking dinner.

Isn’t he just precious??

Family Time

Two Sundays ago Emma and I headed up to LaVergne, Tennessee to visit with my Granny Dunham and her friend Pauline.  My Granny has been staying with Pauline since the beginning of the year and I was in desperate need of some Granny time!  :)  Here’s my sweet Granny…

We spent the afternoon visiting with Pauline and her family and my Uncle Arnold drove down too.  At first I wasn’t sure how Emma would react sitting around all day so we took lots of books, stickers, and toys.  When we got there we found out Pauline’s great grandson was visiting and so Emma had a playdate.  Daniel is 5 years old and Emma instantly hit it off with him.  I don’t know if she’s ever taken to someone so quickly before and they just played all afternoon.  They were both so sad when it was time to leave.

Right before it was time to leave Emma said “mommy, maybe we can go to Gabby and Ru-Rus’s house next.”  I knew she had been dying to see them and the thought had already crossed my mind so after a quick phone call, we were on our way to Cookeville!  Yep, we spent 6 hours in the van that day.  Gabby cooked us a yummy dinner and Graham and Isaac came over to play too.

We had such a fun day visiting family and Emma cried when it was time to drive home.  It was really sad BUT cousin Kelsey came down on Monday so that made it all better!  We all LOVE Kelsey and I was thrilled that she wanted to spend her college spring break with me and my monkeys.  How sweet is that?  Poor girl may not come back next year though b/c I think she realized how hectic a house with 2 small kids is.  :)  ha ha!   We had a blast though and Emma is looking forward to being the flower girl in her wedding in June.

While Kelsey was here we didn’t do much besides go to the store a few times, take Hudson to the dr, Emma had dance, and we cooked alot.  We actually whipped up 2 yummy Pioneer Woman recipes!  On Monday night we made her Cajun Chicken Pasta and on Wednesday we made the Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp.   It was my first time ever cooking shrimp and it was so easy!

Here’s my ingredients for the Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp.  Easy peasy!

Both recipes were really good except the kids didn’t really care for them.  Both times they ate just the noodles.  I highly recommend both recipes especially the shrimp!

At some point in the week I introduced Kelsey to Bakerella.  Who hasn’t heard of Bakerella, right?  I LURVE her blog and all of her creations.  I have always wanted to try making a cake pop and Kelsey was on board.  Yum!

As you can tell the kids were on board too!

The cake pops were so incredibly easy to make and very messy!

Of course we made them all chocolate and then shipped them to Emma’s school the next day!  Her teacher loved me!  NOT!

Here’s the finished product.  We just did plain jane pops but you can fancy shmancy them up anyway you like.

As you can tell the past couple of weeks have been really busy for us.  After Kelsey left on Thursday, Gabby and Ru-Rus came down Saturday and spent the night.  They helped us work on the yard and it looks much better.  George and I also went out to a Huntsville Havoc hockey game Saturday night and that was fun.  I could hardly keep my eyes open because I was so tired from raking, mowing, and being in the sun all day but it was still nice to get out alone.  THANK YOU Gabby & Ru-Rus!

I’ve got lots more updating to do but it’s late and I want to watch The Real World before going to bed.  Oh and tomorrow is St. Patty’s Day so I need to find some green to wear.

Good night!

Say “Cheese!”

On Tuesday Emma had picture night at dance.  My friend Tracy had warned me that it was chaotic and overwhelming and let me tell you, it was!  There was a crazy amount of people there and everyone was trying to get ready and then wait in line for pictures.  Emma and I went early so Tracy could curl her hair.  That was a huge help for me!

Since Emma is all girly girl she had a blast putting on makeup, getting her hair did, and wearing her recital dress.  She was absolutely precious!  She kept twirling around in front of the mirrors and practicing her dance moves.  Super sweet!

Everything had been so peachy and fun and then it was time for the pictures.  They don’t let any parents back in the picture room so Barbra went with her.  About 2o or so minutes later I went to check on her and noticed some of her little friends were trying to find their mommy.  So I kept looking for Emma and then I found her-sobbing on a chair with Barbra.  Apparently it was too overwhelming for her 4 year old self and she was “tired” and wanted to go home.  She always uses “I’m tired” when she gets upset, gets in trouble, etc.  Barbra informed me they didn’t get any pictures of her and she was crying during the class picture.  Mommy was very upset too.  I had thought everything was going to be perfect and she would love having her picture taken but nope, it was a disaster!  So I took her outside and talked with her for a few minutes and she said she wanted to try again.  This time they actually let me go in the room with her.  Nothing.  She refused to sit on the stool and take a picture.  We left unhappy campers.

The next day (Wed) she wanted to go back and try again.  They said we could come back at 2:30 and there would only be one class and it would be alot less overwhelming.  So once again we got all fancied up and Tracy curled her hair.  Success!!!  She was so good and just hammed it up for the photographer.  She even took her picture with Barbra to put in the recital book.  I was one happy momma!  I’m glad we ended up and went back and next year I know to go on a quiet day when everyone is still in school.

Now we are looking forward to recital in May.  She keeps asking me about it.  I’m hoping that on rehearsal night she will get all of her jitter bugs out and recital won’t be disastrous.  We’ll see!

Is It Really March?

So hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner!  We have the most beautiful weather here in Alabama today and I LOVE it!  I’m always in a much better mood when the sun is out & we can play outside.  I don’t have much to report today but wanted to share a few pictures of the kids.  We had a wonderful lazy weekend with Daddy and then yesterday I did some major cleaning on our master bedroom.  We have some major plans for our bedroom but we’ll see just how long it takes us to complete them!  ha ha!  We are the worst project people.  Seriously.   Our friends are always doing home projects and we are always amazed but can’t seem to get started on our own.  Oh well, maybe one day!

Last Tuesday night I took Emma to dance and George cooked us a wonderful dinner.  It was so so good and he basically just threw some things together.  Here’s a rundown on the ingredients:

  • chicken sausage (or you could use chicken, turkey sausage, ground beef)
  • green & red bell peppers
  • onion
  • cheese & spinach tortellini
  • diced tomatoes with oregano, basil, and a 3rd spice I can’t remember
  • parmesan cheese

I think that’s everything.  I should probably ask George exactly how he cooked it before I post this but I’m lazy.  :)  I’m pretty sure he just sauteed the peppers & onions and then threw the chicken sausage in.  The tortellini has to be boiled first and then you can mix it with everything else and the tomatoes.  Then sprinkle with parmesan cheese.  He said it was so easy.  Both kids love the tortellini too so we try to cook it once a week.  It’s just a different spin on spaghetti.  Here’s a picture b/c I know that’s what everyone wants to see!

Try it out!  You will not be disappointed!

In other news Hudson has fallen in love with yogurt.  He refuses to let you feed him these days so his love for yogurt shows all over his beautiful face.  It ends up in his eyes, hair, and everywhere else you can imagine.

He does really well with a spoon for the most part but eventually just gets a big glob of yogurt in his hands & crams it in his mouth.  Really interesting to watch.  :)

This week is Dr. Seuss week at Emma’s school.  Our family loves Dr. Seuss books!  Today they asked everyone to wear the silliest socks and this is what we came up with…

She’s might cute isn’t she?  On Thursday she’s supposed to wear a silly hat & Dr. Seuss will make an appearance!  I wonder if I can go to school just to see him??  Oh to be a kid again!

That’s about all that is happening in our house this week besides a playdate or two.  Our house is fairly clean so I’m a happy momma!  I almost forgot.  American Idol is on 3 nights this week!  Has anyone else liked AI this year as much as me??  I’ll admit that at first I wasn’t too excited about Simon leaving and the new judges taking over.  I kept saying I wasn’t going to watch it anymore b/c it just wasn’t going to be the same.  Guess what?  I LOVE it even more than the previous seasons!  It’s got such a positive vibe now that Simon is gone and I’m so glad that I decided to watch it.  There is some amazing talent this year & while I have my favorites, I’m not sure who is going to win.  It’s so good!  Now that they’ve narrowed it down to 24 it’s going to start getting better.

So for those that are watching AI this year, who are your favorites?

Are you a fan of the new judges?

Hudson just woke up so I better run!  Emma has pictures at dance tonight too so she’s going to get all glammed up!
