My Beautiful & Talented Cousin!

A couple of weeks ago we headed to Nashville for the Fresh Beat Band show and to see my cousin Monya’s art show at school.  It worked out perfectly for us to stop by the art show and then head straight to the Ryman.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but my cousin Monya is super talented in art and fashion design.  Some people just have a knack for the arts and that is Monya.  She’s been painting and drawing since she was little bitty and now she plans to attend a fashion design school when she graduates.  I couldn’t be more proud!

While we were at the art show, Monya was given an award.  She’s grown into such a beautiful graceful young lady.  I’ve always said that Monya and Melica are the BEST behaved girls and I mean it.  Aunt Marsha and Jim did a terrific job raising them.  :)

Here’s Monya accepting her award-

I think Monya’s passion is fashion design.  She created this dress out of magazine paper (I think) and she won $16,000 in scholarship money to a fashion design school.  How awesome is that?  I think she’s rather amazing!  :)

She had several other pieces displayed at the show and a couple involved Emma and Hudson.

Here’s a painting she did based on a picture I took of Hudson as a baby.

Then she painted a picture of Emma’s shoes and her hospital baby hat.  I loved this one!  She also included a snippet of Emma being born early.  Love!

Here’s a few other pictures and this one is one of my favs!

We are so so very proud of you Monya!  You are such a talented sweet girl!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Oh how I love thee!

After the kids and I left the gym today I decided to stop by Starbucks for an iced latte.  You know I had to replace all of those calories & carbs that I had just burned!  ha ha!  I was just thinking the other day that I could NOT wait until fall and for my favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks be available.  Well surprise, surprise!  I pulled up to the drive-thru and I saw it on the sign.  Momma was in heaven!  I’m sure the lady thought I was crazy b/c I asked her if I could really get it.  I thought maybe it was a cruel joke or something.  :)

It was just what I needed after I pushed myself on my last 1.5 mile on the treadmill.  It’s the little things in life.  :)

The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe!

One of my most favorite blogs is Brown Eyed Baker .  She post the most mouth watering recipes and I’ve been dying to try a few.  In fact, last Thursday I made her Jalapeno Popper Dip to take to Bunco.  One girl told me it was the best thing she had ever tasted and asked if I put crack in it!  ha ha.  It is definitely not healthy but it is great for potlucks or monthly Bunco games!

Last night I was browsing Brown Eyed Bakers top 10 list and really wanted to try her chocolate chip cookie recipe.  I’m always looking for an excuse to make cookies!  😉  So tonight after dinner I got out my baking supplies only to realize we were out of chocolate chips.  I ran down to the Dollar General and got 2 packs just so I had enough.  You can never have too many chocolate chips right?  Then I looked at my recipe and realized I needed Baking Soda, not Baking Powder.  UGH!  I was having a blonde moment.  I tried calling my neighbor/friend Christa to bum some off of her but she wasn’t answering her phone.  I went next door to another neighbor and they weren’t home.  I was starting to think this was a sign that I did not need these cookies!  I broke down and drove 2 minutes down the road to the little old grocery store and got me 2 boxes of Baking Soda!  Whew, all that work for cookies.  I’m so glad I followed through with this recipe b/c they are soooo good!  She says something about making a big ball, break in half, blah blah blah but I just made big balls of cookie dough.  At first it looked like they weren’t cooking right but they are just lighter in color.  I think mine did take 20 minutes to bake even though she said 15-18 minutes.  I can’t say enough just how yummy these cookies are!  Enjoy the recipe!

Baby Shower

Today Heather and I threw a baby shower for Carmen.  Baby Polpanich is due September 9th I believe but my guess is he or she will arrive the end of August.  I can’t believe that they will have a sweet little baby in 6 weeks or less!  I just love how all of our friends are finally having babies!

Since Paul & Carmen are keeping the gender a surprise Heather and I decorated in green/yellow and I had found the most adorable invites on Etsy with an owl theme.  I love me some owls!  Everything came together so nicely and I really enjoyed myself today.  I think Carmen was really happy too.  She received so many wonderful gifts!  They are going to have so much fun getting prepared now that they are in the homestretch.

I took so many pictures today and have edited just a few.  Check out the cute owl cake.  Isn’t it adorable??  It tasted so stinking good too!

The cake

I ordered cake cookies from Suzanne’s Bakery in Athens for guest favors.  I taste tested one yesterday and they are yummy!

I was so happy that Carmen’s mom and Memaw were able to make it from Kingston, TN.  I haven’t seen them in a long time and they always put a smile on my face.  Carmen’s memaw is just so sweet and I just want to hug her neck!

Now only 6 weeks or less and we’ll get to meet baby P!  I’m just so excited for them and they are going to be terrific parents!  :)

Time for bed for this tired mommy.  My battery is about to die on the laptop so that’s a sign I need to close it down.  Bring on Monday Funday!

This afternoon I took the kids to Bridgestreet to play in the fountains while we waited for Daddy to get off of work.  Then we headed over to Tommy’s Pizza for dinner.  I love Tommy’s!

While we were waiting for our pizza the kids wanted to ride the carousel.  Emma was in the teacup and I was holding on to Hudson on the tiger.  Well little man has turned into a big boy overnight.  He looked at me and then my left hand on his leg and he said “no” and moved my hand off of his leg.  Then he realized I had my other arm around his waist and once again he said “no no” and moved my arm away!  Once he realized I was NOT touching him in any way he was happy.

Where is my baby???

Hudson is such a momma’s boy and that about broke my heart.  He is just so cuddly and loving and normally loves for mommy to hold & love him but apparently those days will be coming to an end soon.  :(  He’s growing up way too fast!

His vocabulary is also growing.  He has several words now and he has one of those sweet little voices like his sister that I just love.  I’ll have to post some of his newest things soon.  Time to get these monkeys to bed!  Mommy has some tv to watch.  :)

Training For A Half-Marathon

Courtesy of

Yep, I have the running bug.  I’ve never been much of a runner but completed my first 5k last October.  It was tough.  I said I never wanted to do that again!  ha!  Since then I would run a couple of miles every now and then but it just didn’t excite me.  Fast forward to a few weeks ago.  George told me I should set a goal like a 10k for later this year.  I wanted nothing to do with that.  It’s just one more thing to add to my daily list of to-dos.  Then out of nowhere I guess about 2 weeks ago I started running at the gym again.  I would just do 2-3 miles and was able to complete 3 miles in 30 minutes.  I was so proud of myself and started thinking maybe I could get up to 4 miles.  Last Monday after George got home I wanted to run outside and told him I would be back in just a few minutes b/c I wasn’t going to run long.  Well after an hour passed he started looking for me!  Once I started running I couldn’t stop and somehow managed to run 5.5 miles!  My legs were floating when I stopped but it felt so great.  Then yesterday (Thursday) I loaded the kids up and headed to the gym b/c I was dying to run.  Strange I know.  Somehow I ran 6 MILES in just over an hour!  I could have kept going too but it was almost dinner time and I knew the kids were probably getting antsy but it was a huge rush.  I’ve always wanted to run more than 2 miles consistently and never thought I would get there.  I’m so proud of myself and I’m ready to keep going.  I feel such a rush when I run especially when I think about getting on the scale in the mornings.  I am very excited to say that in the past 6 weeks I have dropped 10 lbs!  Woo-hoo!  I’ve lost several inches in different places and over 4% body fat.  My personal training sessions have done wonders for me and I’m ready to push forward to meet my goals.  I’ve got a good 20-25 lbs more to lose and I really want to try training for a half.

Who is on board with me???  :)

Luckily my wonderful George has taken up running too and on Memorial Day weekend he’ll do his first 10k race.  I’m so excited for him!  He’s also planning to do a half marathon in November so I think we will do it together.  Wish us luck!  :)

Update On My Weight Loss

It has been just over 2 weeks since I started with my personal trainer.  I LOVE having a personal trainer and I wish I could afford her all the time!  Right now I have her for 10 sessions.  So far I am down 5 lbs today and my stomach feels flatter.  I had planned on doing a strength workout Friday and then skip yesterday and then do my cardio today.  Well with the kids being sick and the crazy storms on Friday I never made it to the gym.  So I had 2 whole days of no gym and I missed it.  I made up for it today by running 3.2 miles on the treadmill in about 34 minutes.  I haven’t ran in a few months so I was proud of myself.  I could’ve kept going but they were about to close so I stopped.   At my training session tomorrow we are planning on taking new measurements so I’m anxious to see if I have lost anything.

Another exciting thing from today is for the 1st time since Emma was a baby I bought size 10 capris!!!  My goal is to be a 6 but I was so pumped about fitting into a 10.  If I could lose some more belly fat from H’s pregnancy I would feel even better but in time it will go away.

Sorry no pictures tonight.  The kids are still coughing & snotty and Emma has had a really rough day behavior wise so George is already in the bed and I’m not far behind.  Good night!

Pig Dinner Weekend

Every year George’s fraternity has a graduate weekend known as Pig Dinner and this year was a date year.  If I remember correctly, they only allow dates every 4 years but I could be wrong.  It was the 30th anniversary and there were probably over 200 graduates/brothers.  We had a wonderful time and got to catch up with lots of friends.

We actually went up to Cookeville on Thursday evening.  On Friday we ran errands around town and then Friday night we had dinner with 20ish friends from college at Chilis.  I wish I would have taken the camera but I forgot.  A couple of our good friends are expecting babies this summer so it was so much fun talking babies!  After that we headed over to the Clarion Inn for the Donor Party but I didn’t make it too long.  This girl is not in college anymore and likes to get in the bed early!

On Saturday I took the kids to my mom’s house for the very 1st time!  George was playing golf with his fraternity brothers so it was just us.  We all had a really good visit and Emma loves all of the toys that my mom had bought.

Then on Saturday night we headed to Pig Dinner while George’s parents took all the grandkids to listen to music and eat dinner.  I had gone out earlier last week and splurged on a new dress/cardigan/shoes and just wasn’t happy about it.  But after I put it on that night and got all fixed up I felt better.  I got several compliments too which made me feel better.  :)  I loved seeing all of our Huntsville friends and friends from college.  For a brief second I really missed our college years but it didn’t last long!

Pig Dinner 2011

I am so glad we got to go this year and George’s parents were so wonderful to help out with the kids so much!  We were really tired Sunday as we headed home but I managed to get everything unpacked & washed asap!  I imagine this week we’ll just lay low and rest.  Thank goodness the kids are getting over their colds too.  Emma was horse all weekend and they have both been so snotty.  We are ready for our 80 degree weather to come back!

Got to go run shower and get Emma ready for dance!  Tuesdays are our busy day!

Is It Really March?

So hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner!  We have the most beautiful weather here in Alabama today and I LOVE it!  I’m always in a much better mood when the sun is out & we can play outside.  I don’t have much to report today but wanted to share a few pictures of the kids.  We had a wonderful lazy weekend with Daddy and then yesterday I did some major cleaning on our master bedroom.  We have some major plans for our bedroom but we’ll see just how long it takes us to complete them!  ha ha!  We are the worst project people.  Seriously.   Our friends are always doing home projects and we are always amazed but can’t seem to get started on our own.  Oh well, maybe one day!

Last Tuesday night I took Emma to dance and George cooked us a wonderful dinner.  It was so so good and he basically just threw some things together.  Here’s a rundown on the ingredients:

  • chicken sausage (or you could use chicken, turkey sausage, ground beef)
  • green & red bell peppers
  • onion
  • cheese & spinach tortellini
  • diced tomatoes with oregano, basil, and a 3rd spice I can’t remember
  • parmesan cheese

I think that’s everything.  I should probably ask George exactly how he cooked it before I post this but I’m lazy.  :)  I’m pretty sure he just sauteed the peppers & onions and then threw the chicken sausage in.  The tortellini has to be boiled first and then you can mix it with everything else and the tomatoes.  Then sprinkle with parmesan cheese.  He said it was so easy.  Both kids love the tortellini too so we try to cook it once a week.  It’s just a different spin on spaghetti.  Here’s a picture b/c I know that’s what everyone wants to see!

Try it out!  You will not be disappointed!

In other news Hudson has fallen in love with yogurt.  He refuses to let you feed him these days so his love for yogurt shows all over his beautiful face.  It ends up in his eyes, hair, and everywhere else you can imagine.

He does really well with a spoon for the most part but eventually just gets a big glob of yogurt in his hands & crams it in his mouth.  Really interesting to watch.  :)

This week is Dr. Seuss week at Emma’s school.  Our family loves Dr. Seuss books!  Today they asked everyone to wear the silliest socks and this is what we came up with…

She’s might cute isn’t she?  On Thursday she’s supposed to wear a silly hat & Dr. Seuss will make an appearance!  I wonder if I can go to school just to see him??  Oh to be a kid again!

That’s about all that is happening in our house this week besides a playdate or two.  Our house is fairly clean so I’m a happy momma!  I almost forgot.  American Idol is on 3 nights this week!  Has anyone else liked AI this year as much as me??  I’ll admit that at first I wasn’t too excited about Simon leaving and the new judges taking over.  I kept saying I wasn’t going to watch it anymore b/c it just wasn’t going to be the same.  Guess what?  I LOVE it even more than the previous seasons!  It’s got such a positive vibe now that Simon is gone and I’m so glad that I decided to watch it.  There is some amazing talent this year & while I have my favorites, I’m not sure who is going to win.  It’s so good!  Now that they’ve narrowed it down to 24 it’s going to start getting better.

So for those that are watching AI this year, who are your favorites?

Are you a fan of the new judges?

Hudson just woke up so I better run!  Emma has pictures at dance tonight too so she’s going to get all glammed up!
